Optional curricula with emphasis on diversity and inclusion

Each of the five partner schools in Ilfov County have developed a curriculum for an optional school subject, which they will implement in the next school year. These curricula aimed to develop inclusive practices, promote diversity, interculturality and civic involvement of young people, but also promote non-violence and gender equality among students.

  1. Diversity and interculturality curriculum (Școala Gimnazială Nr. 3 Buftea)

The curriculum for the optional subject"Diversity and interculturality"is a curriculum at the school's decision, for second grade students. Once a week, the discipline aims to discuss the development of active and responsible social behavior, based on respect on principles of equality, improving the capacity for intercultural dialogue and cooperation, but also increasing self-esteem, by encouraging a natural attitude and a inclusive cultures.

2. Education curriculum for sustainable development (Școala Gimnazială Sintești-Vidra)

The curriculum on the subject of Education for sustainable development represents a curricular offer for an optional subject for gymnasium and high school (to be approached in the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th grades, differentiated, in terms of educational contents, for each class designed for one hour / week, during a school year). The school curriculum includes the following elements / themes that promotes:

  • interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach to current issues related to globalization, development / sustainable development, global citizenship, ecology and environment;
  • preparing middle school / high school students to understand the impact of global problems on individual and group level;
  • preparing middle school / high school students for systemic, critical and creative thinking at a local and global level
  • involving young people in the development and implementation of development projects and in promoting behavior conducive to sustainable development.

3. Education for active citizenship (Liceul Tehnologic „Cezar Nicolau”)

The curriculum for the subject "Education for active citizenship" emphasizes the action on the dimension of civic education, by practicing in different contexts the skills, attitudes and civic behaviors acquired by students, helping to highlight the practical-applicative nature of teaching-learning processes. evaluation. This optional course is structured around two major themes:

  • Citizens' rights and responsibilities
  • Political and social life at national, local, county level

4. Education for promoting nonviolence

The school subject "Education for promoting nonviolence" aims to contribute to the development of social and civic skills in the training profile of the 8th grade graduate. The program was structured in relation to the theme of nonviolence education, so as to achieve:

- approaching the issue from several perspectives;

- preparing students to understand the manifestations of violence in everyday life and its devastating impact on the well-being of individuals and the community;

- training and developing the skills to manage emotions and behavior, so that they are able to show empathy, make responsible decisions, relate positively;

- changing the attitude towards violence by acceptance and giving up indifference

- developing skills to enable students to be involved in solving problems in the school community, finding solutions, in particular by carrying out projects to prevent and combat violence

- developing nonviolent behaviors oriented towards values common to a harmonious society, including: tolerance, cooperation, solidarity, dignity, compassion, goodwill.

5. Education on gender equality

The curriculum for the optional subject "Education on Gender Equality" is based on a set of values meant to support children development in facing issues regarding gender inequality. Among the topics and activities that will be carried out in this optional course are:

  • Manifesting positive attitudes towards oneself, towards the group and towards the physical and social environment, through the use of specific techniques in the field of gender equality.
  • Adequate application of desirable relationship rules in the context of life.
  • Responsible participation in decision-making by exercising the spirit of initiative and entrepreneurship of elements of gender equality from the perspective of the specific age of puberty and adolescence.

Moreover, Valentin Negoi developed a curriculum based on cultural diversity and ethnic minorities.It focuses on education and inclusion, on equal treatment of Roma students, but also on the past of the Roma community, combined with historical information and practical exercises.
