Project Presentation

The "We can do more together!" project benefits from a grant of €897,454 from Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway through EEA Grants under the Local Development Program.

The project aims to support the empowerment of 2,200 Roma at the national level, using a "bottom-up" approach in which Roma citizens are at the center, learning to actively contribute to solving community problems and making their voices heard.

The project is implemented by Agenția "Împreună" (The "Together" Agency), along with its partners: The Romano-Kher National Roma Culture Center, The Roma Amare Rromentza Center Association, The Marginalized Communities Association Botoșani, The Făgăraș Roma Association, The DANROM Făurei Association, The Community Development Agency in Buzău, and the Ursari Roma Association from Dagâța, during the period of 01.01.2021-31.12.2022.

The approach of this project is innovative, changing the frequently used social perspective in public policies and the media portrayal of the group in an ethnic perspective of the Roma, as a resource for Romania's development.

The general objective of the proposed project is: Increasing the inclusion and empowerment of 2,200 Roma in Romania. The project will meet the general objective set by 3 pillars:

  • Empowerment of 20 Roma communities from 5 counties (Botoșani, Brașov, Brăila, Buzău and Iași) through: community facilitation and development;
  • Training of 75 Roma experts and leaders at a national level to increase their involvement in decision-making targeting Roma communities and beyond;
  • Campaigns to promote Roma culture and identity addressed both to Roma (to better understand the elements of their own identity and stimulate its assumption), and to the majority of people, to reduce stereotypes and prejudices caused by the lack of knowledge regarding the Roma group.
