Together we share the story of the Roma community

This year, on February the 20th, we commemorated the 165th anniversary of the Roma's emancipation. The Community Development Agency Foundation "Împreună" and the HoltIS Association have contributed to the knowledge of thehistory of our Roma neighbours through didactic activities supported by teachers.

For five centuries, the Roma have been subjected to inhumane treatment, enduring physical abuse, starvation, rape and even murder, without anyone being held accountable. On February the 20th 1856the ruler of Wallachia Barbu Știrbei (1849-1856) abolished slavery through the "Law for the emancipation of all Gypsies in the Principality of Wallachia".

Romania has had the longest period of slavery of all time (almost 500 years). However, the painful past of the Roma is unfortunately not known by a large part of the population. For this reason, we promoted Roma history as our history, everyone's history, in order to build an inclusive society.

We have invited all teachers working in Romania to register to the event via the online platform qie.ro. Following registration, teachers had access to two materials on which to carry out an activity with their students Read more

The „The Santa Claus for all” campaign 2020

As you all know, for more than 15 years Santa Claus has been bringing the magic of the holidays into the homes of children who every year wait for Santa to come, but rarely or never have felt his presence.

No matter how hard it's been this year, we haven't given up on creating stories with and about Santa.

It all started in November 2020, when 250 children from the community of Racoș drew pictures expressing how much they wanted to see Santa Claus that year.

After a long, foggy, windy, cold, rainy and sunny journey, Santa Claus arrived in the community that turned out to be full of fairy tales. He found stories of children who have everything, others for whom "happy holidays" is just a hope that tomorrow might be better. There are children who love and believe in Santa Claus and the goodness of others, others who say that when they grow up they will be "whatever God wants". Stories about how the grown-ups take care of the little ones, stories about the grown-ups' desire to be an example for their brothers and sisters... for their community.

The children of Racoș are superheroes because regardless of the difficulties at home and the lack of materials, Read more

The #ÎmpreunăSuntemOComunitate campaign

In 2020, we chose to celebrate the international day of the Roma (the 8th of April) with solidarity. Although it was an atypical year, during the pandemic people from the Roma community worked for all of us. It is thanks to them that we are strong.

History shows us that we can overcome anything together, as long as we stand in solidarity. Everyone must do their best to get through the pandemic period. On April 8th, internet users met some of the Roma professionals who, in difficult times for Romania, chose to think and work for others. Some consider them heroes. We consider them just professionals doing their job.

We don't need racism! We need solidarity and we need to know our Roma neighbours!

Here are just some of the people who make us stronger:
